Transferring & Transforming Patented Technology in Manufactured Products
The NCOE is currently beginning a review of how much patented technology gets created in institutions of higher education vs. industry, how much of that patented technology actually makes its way into successful products, and what can be done to improve commercialization.

The transfer of patented technology from centers of excellence into successful products with sustained marketability has not been carefully examined, nor have accurate statistics been kept. This project seeks to quantify both the amount of technology transfer that has occurred, and also to determine the best practices that consistently result in successful transfer and product commercialization. In addition, since the majority of patented technology comes from industry each year, a similar review and comparison of the processes associated with that type of technology transfer and commercialization will be conducted.
